An ambitious goal. A searchable, filterable map and list of every freediving school in the world. Only a few weeks ago it was just a goal, and now here we are: The start of something huge.

- One interactive map
- 36 freediving schools
- 6 continents
- 14 countries
- 100 filter options
It has a long way to go, but move its fast!
Amed to Panglao to The World

Three weeks ago I landed here in Panglao, for my first depth comp this year. Luciana was meant to be here with me, but life had other plans. Forced to stay dry for a month, and out of the depths for 3.
But Luciana is a competitive freediver in deep, no Dr-ordered dry-mandate will get in her way from being part of the Competitive Freediving scene. She had the brilliant idea for a freediving comp at Apnea Bali.
Luciana and I had already built a website to list freediving retreats. With the launch of this new competition we saw another opportunity.
A list of every Freediving Competition
I told Lu I’d build her a website for the comp. But why stop there? We already had the architecture to list freediving retreats, why not list other things?

Why not built a central place for all freediving competitions. Freediving comps are notoriously hard to find online. AIDA’s website has some, but only AIDA and the registration links don’t always work. CMAS’s website also has some, but again only CMAS its not the most user friendly. TheFreediveRanking is another promising place, but seems be more for live comps then upcoming.
Mostly, you have to be in the know. You have to be connected to comp or know someone who knows.
So we made and launched our Competitions Listing and added the AIDA Tulamben Pool Games 2025 to the listing!
And it worked, one month after launching the comp and its nearly SOLD OUT. (But not yet, so sign up now)
If you are running a comp, or know a comp coming up. Share or use this link to add the comp to our listing!
From Competitions to Mapping Freediving Schools
After the success of our competitions, I thought back to a conversation I’d had with Prianna in Kenya about her experience finding freediving schools.
“It’s difficult to locate freediving schools … which certifications they teach … and most of their website’s suck … I had to make a spreadsheet”
So I built a test page to map the freediving school Apnea Bali, just to see what it could look like, and I liked it. I liked it A LOT.

I added a few freediving schools, put it online and started iterating.
Once I was happy enough I built a map opened it up for others to submit freediving schools too.
It now has over 35 schools, in 6 continents from over 14 countries.
We not only put all the schools onto a map, but we list them by over 100 attributes include
- Accreditation Agencies (Molchanovs, AIDA, SSI, Total Apnea, etc…)
- Facilities (Pool, Depth, Gym, Change Room, Showers etc…)
- Offerings (Courses, Coaching, Photography, Spearfishing etc…)
- Courses (Level 1, 2, 3, Masters, Instructor Courses, Mermaiding, Safety etc…)
- Depth Options (Max Depth, Platform, Bouy, Counter Weight etc…)
- Pool Options (Length, Lanes, Owned or Rented, Temp etc…)
- Deep Safety Considerations (Emergency Equipment, Time to nearest chamber)
- Language Taught In
We have done well to hit 35 schools so fast, but we have a long way to go!
We need your help to get us there. There is a list, you can be on it!
Send this article to your favourite freediving schools!

Sincerely,
Brennan Hatton
