Fresh Water

Hey, I’m Jack Webb, and I run things here at @freedivefnq.
I really enjoy holding my breath underwater, and equally so, teaching other people how to hold their breath underwater.
I’m a competitive freediving athlete, national record holder, molchanovs freediving instructor and an experienced spearfisherman.

I’ve been freediving since my early teens, either on a line or with a speargun in my hand sourcing food, from the far north to remote locations around the globe. These days, my spare time when I am not teaching freediving, revolves around – you guessed it – training my own freediving. I can’t imagine my life another way. I have intentions to keep diving deeper, longer, and sharing the things I learn along the way. Holding my breath in the water and diving deep is my passion.

I am in love with the constant challenges and growth freediving presents. There are so many aspects of it that you can work on that translate to how you live everyday, it’s a lifestyle. It’s a great tool for tuning into the body, learning to respect it, and with that, carefully listening to when it’s the right time to lash out and go for it! (In the most gentle way).

Whether someone’s a complete beginner or an advanced freediver, I enjoy being underwater with them, guiding them to relax deeper and longer, and most importantly – safer.
Providing a space for people to grow, watching them persevere, gradually increasing their confidence and relaxation, their love for their underwater life, the whole time being immersed in the elements, is what teaching freediving encompasses for me.
It’s like that. Every time. So good.

Whatever aspect of Freediving you want to learn or improve on, the freediving sport itself, spearfishing, freediving for meditation, healing water trauma, trying something new, and much more – I’ve got your back all the way and I’m proud to.

Hopefully get to cross paths with you one day and share some time in the water.

DIVE DEEP INTO THE VOLCANIC CRATER LAKES
Yidyam (Lake Eacham) and Barany (Lake Barrine) are two freshwater lakes, located on the Ngajan country (Atherton Tablelands), a short drive from Cairns. They are 3km apart, and both offer approximately 65 meters of freshwater depth, while being surrounded by lush rainforest and immersed in perfect tableland temperatures.

While being very sacred ground for the local Ngajanji people, we feel very honoured to be able to use these lakes in our time for our passion. As far as deep freediving training grounds go, these lakes offer some of, if not the deepest, most easily accessible and freedive-able water on mainland Australia. Not having to rely on lining up the wind, rain & tide (such as need be when freediving in the ocean) give us the opportunity to say that we can run courses & training every week without having to reschedule due to environmental conditions not being in our favour. There is 65m of depth here to dive 365 days a year! Freedivefnq is one of the only freediving specific schools which has a permit to operate in these beautiful lakes, and we make the most of it!

Hopefully see you up here in the rainforest! If you have more curiosity on these lakes themselves, click on the ‘MORE LAKE INFORMATION’ link below or get in touch and click ‘DROP US A LINE!’
